Show INTERVIEW: Edith Nelendez Page 25 EM: No, basically your people, Hexican people moved her.e, West Jordan, Kearns, around this area because it was closer to work. So I'd say maybe 40% moved from Bingham, your Mexicans people moved here to Midvale. GC: Hm4 are your community ties, do you still see each other, belong to the same? EM: Well, shall I say our community ties aren't so close as in Bingham because down here is a different atmosphere. We are more seperated. In Bingham there was one street and there were just two stores, so I mean the meat markets ... GC: You couldn't go very far without seeing each other? EM: No, another thing too, cars up there at the time weren ' t that prevalent. Down here you have your bus, your cars, people work in the city and up in Bingham very few people worked in the city. For one thing, we had, snowing alot and we just had the bus maybe two or three times a day and it was very difficult all your functions were in Bingham, whether you like it or didn't like it. And down here you go to Salt Lake, you can go to Murray, it is a lot more prevalent to get around, is easier to get around. GC: Were there any social clubs or any kind of social group that the Mexican people maybe formed? EM: In Bingham? GC: Yes, in Bingham. |
