Show INTERVIEW: Sierra Page 19 'Ah, this guy wants to take advantage of his association with the organization,' to sell his insurance, for instance at the state, regional, national level and all that stuff, so the chairman says, 'Okay, you come to the meeting and make a presentation.' Well, right away, it turns the guy off, because he wants the chairman to sell it, insurance to everybody else. He doesn't want to do it himself. So he comes to the meeting and makes a presentation. Well, okay, that sounds good. Now, we'll give it thirty days to think about it and then we'll take it up at the next meeting. Well, the next meeting the guy doesn't show up. So it is dropped from the agenda for instance. If he doesn't care to pursue it anymore, it dies right there. You know, nobody is going to, I mean people just don't let the organization be taken care of that way, because too many people have sacrificed for too many years. You know, to stand back and let somebody take advantage of it and it's easy to tell if a person is in an organization for what you think he is, for gain and so those people, what you generally do is weed them out and they weed themselves out really. I've found that and for your question about community support for the organization, I think that the G. I. Forum has erodibility all over. I think thnt it hus more credibility than any other Chicano organization in the United |
