BS: Well, I got two years in, and then I decided that well, I better just get married and, or go into the service first and then come home and get married. So I went off into the service and then I came home and I got married and so I wanted to do something. So I opened up a restaurant downtown, and 90% of downtown Beeville, 90% of my trade was Anglo. And while I was serving the Anglo, the established, the established people there, the pioneers of the godfathers o lo que se ya. They were very kind and I started getting involved in the political arena. Then all of a sudden we had, about the same time, we had what we call the "Marcha de los campesinos del valle." I was :chairman of the G.I. Forum at the time, so they requested help from the G.I.Forum. So, I took the leadership in trying to help these people across our community. And, of course, the La Marcha did not set too good with the gringos, because they were the ones who, I guess, felt like they were going to be offended. So they came to me and said to me I was doing good in business and they tried to tell me, 'Sabes que, don't get involved.' I told them that these was the things that I wanted to do and I felt that this was an obligation and so I got involved.
