Show INTERVIEW: Mr. and Mrs. Salazar Page 2 BM: The type of work your father did? ES: My father was a sheepman, farmer and sheepman, same time . Oh, he had about 100 acres of land around San Antonio River, that is east, southeast of Manassa. They used to call that little place, Rincones. And my grandparents, . Francisco Estevan Salazar y Maria Carmen Valdez, they came there in about 1857, and settled there and built a big house. So, he had all his sons and daughters around him. He died, my grandmother died in 1873. I rather say first, he was born in 1801. BM: 1801. ES: And he died in 1873. And my grandmother Valdez also died the same year. I don't have the right date of her marriage, or her birth, but we assumed that she was born around 1810 or 12, that is as close as we can get. We can't find a record of her. They got married in 1828, on June second, my grandparents. My father and mother got married in 1872 in Conejos in the month of February and I was born in 1888. I have living now three brothers and one sister; we used to be 11 members of the family. And I worked with my father until I was married. I married in 1911 in Manassa, Colorado. I lived there farming, raising some pigs, and cows, sheeps, and dogs, cats ... and .. |
