Show INTERVIffi~: Mr. and Mrs. Salazar Page 5 ES: No, I had my home in Alamosa, not mine, but rented. Rented a good home, I never lived in a railroad car. BM: And the other men that you worked with, were they Spanish-speaking men or from other nationalities? ES: In the shop? BM: Within the railroad? ES: There were all mixed up. Mexicans, Italians, and gabachos, all mixed-up races. BM: Were there very many Mexicans? ES: Yes, quite a. . the majority were Mexicans. BM: What made you move to Salt Lake? ES: Well, I moved to Salt Lake, I had a good seniority with the company, it was too cold there, the was cold in the winters, it used to go 40 below ... so we decided. I asked the company for transfer ... and they wanted to transfer me to Denver, and I didn't like Denver either. It is just as well staying in Alamosa, Denver is a cold city, then we decided to. I decided with the family and another friend of ours and he and his family, to move to Salt Lake even if we lost our seniority. We moved to Salt Lake in April 1926 ... That is as I said before. From here we couldn't get a job here in the shop here in Salt Lake, but we decided to go to Idaho Falls, both |
