Show WOMEN'S DEBATE Laverne Bane Coach ? Exhibiting an enthusiasm rarely shown by women students, several Utah University co-eds turned out for the debate season. Since there was no active participation in this field last year, the team this year had a new start. All encounters were non-decision debates and were given on the Pi Kappa Delta question, the same program followed by the varsity and freshman teams. ? During March, the women debaters traveled to quite an extent. The first trip was taken to Ogden where the Utah team debated with Weber College. An interesting encounter was the one between Utah and U.S.C. at Salt Lake. Two debates were held with teams from Utah State, one in Salt Lake and one in Logan. Utah's feminine debaters were represented at the Junior College Debate Tournament in Provo, April 6 and 7. The climax of the various engagements was the trip to Colorado, where two of the teams debated successfully with teams from Colorado University, Denver University and the University of Wyoming. ? The Women debaters are the only championship debaters on the campus and they have made an enviable record. The team tied this year with B.Y.U. for the state championship which included U. of U., B.Y.U., and the U.A.C. ? The debaters were: Mary Barnes, Marjorie Evans, Florence Gubler, Fawn McKay, Dede Olsen, and Jan Van Ness. Ness. Evans Olsen Barnes McKay Van Ness Two Hundred Seventy-seven |
