Show AM I FRESHMAN DEBATE Ray Owen Coach ? Entering school with new enthusiasm, several freshmen turned energetically to debating, with the result that the team which was finally chosen has earned a name for itself in junior college debating. The debaters discussed the Pi Kappa Delta question-that the powers of the President of the United States should be substantially increased as a settled policy. All the debates held during the year by the freshman team were on the question. ? Four members of the team made a trip to southern Utah, March 15, 16, and 17. They engaged in non-decision debates with teams from Snow College, Dixie College, and the Branch Agricultural College. All of the debates were held in Cedar City. ?The most important event of the year was the Junior College Debate Tournament which was held April 6 and 7, at Prove The entire Utah team was entered, and won third place. Competing in the tournament were fifty-two teams from various nearby colleges, including University of Idaho Southern Branch, U.A.C, Weber College, B.Y.U., Snow College, the Branch Agricultural College from Cedar City, and Dixie College. ? Ray Owen was frosh debate coach and William Murdock was chosen as debate manager. The team was composed of the following: Julia Brixen, Stuart Foutz, Donald Glad, Mike Masaoka, Gordon Miller, Bill Richards and Calvin Rampton.
