Show INTRAMURALS ? Intramural athletics are establishing themselves more firmly in the school curriculum, and have enjoyed the most successful year ever experienced since their inception a decade ago. ? Probably the outstanding achievement of this year's program was the increased number of men competing in the various sports. Handball, tennis, and horseshoes showed the greatest increase, with over two hundred men competing in each of these events. ?The year started off with softball introduced into the curriculum for the first time. The success of this venture assures it a permanent place in the program in years to come. All in all, sixteen distinct tournaments were conducted. The largest of these was the winter basketball tourney, won by Sigma Nu, in which over one hundred and twenty-five games were played. The competition lasted an entire quarter. ?The past year's program showed the need for more complete facilities, particularly indoors. The basketball and handball tourneys were run off under extremely difficult conditions, and the wrestling and swimming competitions could have been made much more extensive, had the facilities permitted. ? In accordance with the constitutional changes permitting the appointment of two head managers, Parry Sorenson and Max Rich shared the managerial duties. Rich served during the fall and winter quarters and Sorenson during the winter and spring. The cooperation of Lieutenant Charles H. Swartz in running off the basketball tourney was a huge factor in its success. The student health service through its cooperation made the standards more and more in accordance with the purpose of athletics. |
