Show ? Peterson established all-conference recogn-tion by his end-play during his collegiate career, and became notable for his basketball coaching in a local prep school. Since coming to Utah he has served as football scout, basketball mentor, and assistant track coach. His success may largely be attributed to his whole-hearted cooperation with Ike Armstrong's principles. ?"Pete" Couch, an especially outstanding all-around athlete in the University's history, plays a heavy role in the welfare of Crimson efforts. During the fall grid season he grooms prospective frosh material in the ways of the enemy teams to the trials of the varsity outfit. As the winter season comes on Couch divides his time between the wrestling quarters and the basketball court. His timely advice to basketball men is sought and adjudged with alacrity by the squadmen. Starting with little knowledge of the mat sport, Pete has collected and imparted advice until his efforts reached a pinnacle this season, when his team won the Western Division R.M.C. championship. ? The success with which swimming titles are brought to Utah U by Coach Charley Welch's aggregations and net titles by Parmelee's netters has almost become traditional. Now that Couch's wrestling team has attained the top, can we expect the surety of minor sport championships in the future as in the past? ? Athletes, students, and townspeople who follow Utah in the athletic whirl expect a great deal from the continuation of the Armstrong-Couch-Peterson combine. With the cooperation of coaches of minor sports even greater glories are looked for from Crimson athletic teams. One Hundred Seventy-five |
