Show n ian ATHLETIC COUNCIL I The combined executive, legislative, and judicial bodies of Redskin athletics lie with the powers of the University of Utah Athletic Council.? Many delicate decisions are deftly dealt with by this stategic board. Matters affecting athletes, intercollegiate competition, the University, and the general public are carefully weighed with their "pro's and con's" before action is taken. ?The adoption, continuation, or abolishment of all sports is judiciously acted upon by the council. Policies are wisely adjusted and standardized, awards are decided, and instructions given to the student athletic manager for detailed conducting of such contests as swimming meets, tennis matches, football games, basketball games, wrestling meets, practice and barnstorming trips, etc. ? Athletic financial matters are controlled by the council - football alone is reported to bring around $40,000 into the Ute coffers. ? Professor Walter A. Kerr most ably directs the council proceedings from "the chair." His progressive, yet conservative, viewpoints reach paramount ideals in sportsmanship, public satisfaction, and above all, fairness. *Mr. Kerr's enthusiasm and understanding of sports have enabled him to capably replace the long term of chairmanship vacated a few years ago by former Dean Joseph F. Merrill. ?The council members are: Professor Walter A. Kerr, chairman; Dr. H. L. Marshall, secretary; Ike J. Armstrong, coach; Thomas Hull, bursar; L. L. Daines, faculty representative; Peter Carlston, senior student representative; Grant Evans, junior student representative; Jack Johnson, alumni representative.
