It featured 'Around the Pump," "Grand Slams" in a whimsical manner. The ever-awed cartoons by Otterstrom, and the graceful hand etchings by Herron, which were surrounded by numerous exchange jokes showed remarkable astuteness in their choice. ?The outstanding feature of the Humbug was the rise of local joke-smiths and funsters. In previous years, the lack of campus humorists was deplored, and a great deal of the wit which was printed in the magazine was imported. Editor Wood Worsley selected a number of persons who displayed a sense of humor and set them to work. Spurred on by his success, he attempted to awake any other great wit, who lay dormant, by offering prizes for such things as the finest "Around the Pump" contribution. However, despite the golden apples offered, the dormant wits remained dormant and the first selection capably did the work. ? Another important factor which contributed to the success of the Humbug was the clever make-up, schemed, planned, and carried out by the editor, and his editorial staff. ? Viewed from every angle, the Utah Humbug, this year, showed a definite step ahead in the advancement of local humor. Furthermore, it revealed the conscientious efforts of the editorial staff to give to the students an entertaining magazine.
