Show The Governor ? One of the hopeful and encouraging facts connected with the present economic situation is that American youth has lost none of its enthusiasm for higher education. College and university enrollments have suffered surprisingly little during the period. ? Of course, not all students have felt the "pinch," but many have felt it keenly. It has thrilled me to learn of the attitude of those who have little or no financial backing, and who, nevertheless, have not faltered. No obstacle has seemed great enough to discourage them: they have surmounted difficulties and courageously carried on. That is how strength is gained, and power attained and success achieved. ? In the coming social and industrial reconstruction, you may be sure, students, that the world will have a place for you. Never before, perhaps, has there been more call for men and women of trained intellect and initiative and who dare venture into new fields of thought and action than right now, when out of something near chaos there must be evolved order and progress. ? Into your hands will be committed the tremendous tasks that must be undertaken, and confidently I predict that you will meet every challenge and win. ?With whole-hearted faith in a bright future, I greet the students of the University of Utah, and bid you Godspeed in a forward course toward useful life and high success.
