Show HOMEWARD JOURNEY from Cheat Salt Lake City to Fort Leavenworth, on the Missouri. to 00 Aug. 27 80 G& IAT SALT LAKB CITY- In the valley of the Great Salt Lake, four miles square, extending east from the bank of Jordan river, ten miles above its mouth, along the base of a spur from the Wahsatch mountains- laid out in squares, with the Temple- block in the centre: streets 182 feet wide; lots 182 by * 1*" A feet: Capital of Utah Territory, and contains 6000 inhabitants, a Mint, Court- houae, and Tithe Store- houses. Founded in 1846, by the Presidency of Latter- day Saints. GoLt'RTf PABS Kjufto*- O& mp No. I, Base of mountain on Qhit- ko- krt- th* 6% or Big KanyoQ Creek. The road passes through a part of the " Big Field," six miles square, south of the city: laid off in five- acre lots, with lanes and streets between them. FORKS or KANTON CBIBK- Camp No. 2. Enter Eanyon, and pass the toll- house. The road is cut, in many places, around points of perpendicular rocks, and some of the curves are so abrupt that the forward cattle must be detached. Cross the stream several times- great care required. The road is being improved by labor. The scenery is grand. FOBD or THB SOUTH FOBK or KANTON CBIBK- Road lies on the table land, near the creek, with plenty of grass, fuel, and water. Creek 6 feet wide. SUMMIT or WAHSATCH RANGB.- Ascent has been gentle, and across several small tributaries of the South Fork of Eanyon Creek.
