Show 11 • One of the many strengths of Business the and Professional Women's Clubs have been the di in versity interests, businesses. and professions represented among its members. This variety in work responsibilities among the more than a thousand members provides vitality and a vigor of action in program planning in clubs and dis trict conferences. I have become aware of this characteristic as I have traveled across the state attending the Fall and Spring Con ferences of the seven districts. Fall District Conferences held were at Price, Panguitch, Brigham City, Spanish Fork, Ver nal, and Salt Lake City. Our Emphasis was given in our con ference sessions to the need among women to become better informed status. nomic The information about national and personal eco brought back to us by Irene Warr, the designated representative to Denver the Economic Seminar, was thought provoking and infor mative. These resumes of the Den ver Seminar, held last summer, provided an incentive to organize the State Economic Seminar spon sored by Business and Professional Women and held in Salt Lake City in February. Legislative issues were another point of emphasis during the Fall Conferences. State man, Bessie F. BPW Chair Anderson, brought the legislative issues recommended by the national federation to the attention of the conference. International Relations Utah's Chairman, Joh Trimble, encouraged the members and committees in the legislative program. She also made special reference to the Minnie Moffatt, Chinese Nursing Home project. Irene Parsons, second vice-presi dent, combines her two roles, that of program chairman and State Civil Defense Chairman, in alert ing Business and Professional Women to the need for knowledge of civil defense. Her vigorous and informed approach to this national urgency has benefited the entire BPW. Membership chairman, Marjorie Cox, has worked diligently to in crease membership in clubs, to assist in stabilization, and to report to the district conferences the goals of BPW in membership increase. Kanab, Moab, Provo, Logan, Mid vale, Salt Lake City, and Roosevelt have been the designated district centers for the Spring District Con ferences. A theme was selected at our Winter Board Meeting when the district directors met in a plan ning session. The theme, "Leader ship in Club and Community", was chosen by the directors. Each district has been individual, highly intelligent, and effective in its presentation. The districts have, indeed, demonstrated real leader ship.
