Show European Art T he Utah Museum of Fine Arts is the only museum m the Mountam West with an extensive collection of European art that represents a millenmum of artistic creation. From the 1950s onward, the collection was formed by donations from generous local patrons. Smee the 1970s a careful acqmsi- tion program has led to a body of art works with particular emphasis on French, Nether- landish, and Itahan art. Such cultural diversity not only ennches students' curncular activities, but also presents a umque opportumty for the pubhc to acquamt itself with the visual art traditions of Europe. For example, visitors to the Museum may pause to adrmre one of the largest fresco fragments m the Umted States, a 15th century Crucifixion scene from Italy or spend time perusmg the fine collection ofltahan Renaissance art of sacred and secular images.
