Show SPECIAL ACTIVITIES AND TRIPS UTAH ARTS FESTIVAL: Rebecca Pickett supervised the UMPA activity for the children's pavilion, the making of monotypes. Docents assistmg with this activity, held June 22 to 25, were: Blame Call, Bizzi Dnnkaus, Yoko Kamaya, Ruth Kerr, Blame Miller, Jean Moseley, Gordon Olson, Golda Olson, Pam Parrot, Gay Lynne Sylvies, Marge Wilson, Cherry Wong, Mary-Kate Wynkoop and Kathie Zumbro. DOCENT RECRUITMENT BARBEOUE: Prospective candidates for the Docent traimng class were mv1ted to attend a barbeque on September 14, 2000 between the hours of 4·00 and 6-00 p.m. DOCENT DISCOVERY DAY: On October 14, 2000 the UMPA docents held their own antique and art appraisal event. The purpose of the activity was to raise money to fund programs that will further the education of UMPA docent volunteers. Participation for this first effort was limited to the docents and members of the Advisory Board. FAITH RINGGOLD LECTURE: Sunday, October 15, 2000, Donnette HatchAtiyah, curator of The Story Quilts of Faith Rmggold presented a lecture and shde show about the hfe and art of Faith Rmggold. The exhibition was appeanng at UMPA at the time. ( HOLIDAY LUNCHEON AND TOUR: Before enJoymg lunch at the Alta Club, docents toured the Salt Lake Art Center Exhibits of special mterest were: Readmg Between the Lmes, works by Afncan-Amencan artists and Machiavelli and the Bottle, pamtmgs by Fnese Undme. Date of the celebration was December 14, 2000 DOCENT TRAINING: Begmning the first week of February, docents attended special trammg classes m the new museum. Topics for February centered around the European collect10n. The Amencan collect10n was treated in March. The new contemporary gallery was discussed m April, and m May the Rodm exhibit and non-Western art collect10ns were studied. SPRING FLING: On May 10, 2001 docents and guests boarded a bus to go to the Alpme Art Center Before lunch m the sculpture garden, docents toured the art exhibits then afterward had a guided tour of the foundry Each stage of castmg a bronze sculpture was explamed. UMFA MEMBERS PRIVATE PREVIEW: May 17, 2001 was the date for the special showmg of the Marcia and John Pnce Museum Buildmg to museum members. The gala evemng featured a buffet dinner and the music of the Joe Muscolmo Quartet. A very large crowd en3oyed the Rodm exhibit and the new building. MUSEUM OPENING AND DEDICATION: The new museum was officially opened to the pubhc and dedicated on June 2, 2001 |
