A Well, in Hell's Half Mile we had plenty of difficulty there, we had to portage; we carried all the equipment around; we ran the rapids with empty boats, and Mr. Loper and Blake got through without any serious trouble; I believe Mr. Loper hit his boat on a rock, and a wave set mine on top of one; they had to throw me a rope. Took considerable time before I could get the boat pulled off the rock. Q That was in which canyon, if you recall? A I don't remember which canyon that was in. Q Do you remember that stretch of the water which is called Desolation canyon? A Hell's Half Mile is in Lodore canyon. Q Do you remember Desolation canyon? A Yes. Q What difficulty did you have there? A Rapids just the same as the rest of it; it was all rapids. MR. FARNSWORTH: Do you expect to prove something different by this witness than you proved by other witnesses over this same territory? MR.
