FARNSWORTH: First time he was ever on the river; didn't know anything about the channels. I want to add, further, to my objection, that it calls for an answer with reference to particular boats in the certain condition they were in, probably also the certain method they had been following in going forward with them, and I object to it upon the ground that it would not be competent proof of the navigability upstream at that time, and upon the further ground, what the opinion of this witness may be on that subject with reference to those particular boats on a journey up the river is not relevant. THE SPECIAL MASTER: He has not had very much experience, Mr. Blackmar. MR. BLACKMAR: I went into that pretty thoroughly about his qualifications. THE SPECIAL MASTER: He said he had four seasons as boatman, one season on the Snake river, and the others were the seasons on this particular river you are now asking |
