Show 3447 Lint- D 1470 wash to the San Juan river. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q About how many miles were you on the river? A You mean working? Q Between the points you went in and the point you went out. MR. FARNSWORTH: The first trip? A We were on the river all the time; I don't know the mileage. BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q You don't know the mileage? A No sir; we covered so much territory that year, I don't remember the mileage. Q Can you tell me about your trip after you entered the river, the Colorado river, as to what progress you made, and what the condition of the river was? A Well, it was just about average water. We were working very slowly, because we had to work on the side canyon doing topography up to thirty- nine hundred feet elevation, so we would work as far from camp as we could, then we would move camp. With this one boat, it was very slow progress. Q What kind of boat did you have? A Had about a sixteen- foot open boat. Q How much draft? A I would say about six inches, in that neighborhood.
