Show 3438 Nims- RD 1461 REDIRECT EXAMINATION BY MR. BLACKMAR: Q Mr. Nims, how large a town was Lees Ferry at the time? A I didn't see but one house there, that is the little cluster that Johnson lived in; there is a house there, and the there was another little building there he called his cook house, where the meals were served -- cooked and served in there, and then there was a barn -- he used for a barn, and I think those three were the only buildings that I saw there. Q Well, all of the people that lived at Lees Ferry were Johnson and Johnson's wives and Johnson's children? A That is all. Q When you went on down the river did you get out on the right-hand side or the left- hand side? A The left- hand side. Q Of the river? A Of the river. Q And from that point where you got, out, where did you go? A We went up to Houserock valley; Houserock, in Houserock valley, is what we called it. Q About how many miles is that? A That is -- let's see -- it probably is in the neighborhood of thirty miles from the river up that valley. |
