Show 2 1 of the Dixie project/the furnishing of an irrigation water 2 supply to approximately twenty-one thousand acres of land, 3 the control of floods, the generation and sale of electric 4 energy, the conservation and development of fish and wild- 5 life resources, and the enhancement of recreation opportuni- 6 ties, the Secretary of the Interior is authorized to construct, 7 operate, and maintain the Dixie project, Utah. The project 8 shall consist of the Virgin City Dam and Reservoir, tunnels, 9 canals, siphons, pumping plants, and other works necessary 10 to serve irrigated and irrigable lands along and adjacent to H the Virgin River; a dam on the Santa Clara River near 12 Gunlock, Utah, and other works necessary to serve irrigated 13 and irrigable lands along and adjacent to the Santa Clara 11 River and on Ivins Bench; and hydroelectric plants and 15 transmission facilities at the Virgin City Dam and at such 16 other points as are desirable. 17 SEC. 2. The project shall include such measures for the 18 disposition of saline waters of La Verkin Springs as are 19 necessary in the opinion of the Secretary to insure the 20 delivery of water at downstream points along the Virgin 21 River for water users in the States of Arizona and Nevada 22 of suitable quality for irrigation, or provision shall be*made 23 to indemnify such water users for any impairment of water 24 quality for irrigation purposes directly attributable to Dixie 25 project operations. |
