Show 7116 Beach- D 5097 Q Which boat or boats were you on when you had that experience? A I was on the large boat, the big barge. Q That is, on the barge? A Yes. Q Who was in charge of the barge at that time? A Virgil Baldwin. Q I wish you would state, Mr. Beach, in you own way, what difficulties or obstructions you had while you were work-ing on that big barge with respect to sandbars or any other cause or condition? A Well, we had trouble on sandbars at certain times and certain places; it was due to floods that would wash down in those big canyons and change the channel of the rivers; you couldn't see it, that it was filled plum full; we would try to stay in the same course we always had stayed in, and we we would get up on the sandbars; then we would have to back up and back into the channel and go on down. Q Now, did you find such a condition or meet such an obstruction at any other points that at or in the immediate vicinity of a side wash? A No, none to speak of. Q And how long would that condition ordinarily continue |
