Show 7086 Baldwin- C 5067 Q That is, you could run just as well in the rapid water as you could in shallow water? A No sir; if you get in the swiftest places, couldn't make any headway; we had to take advantage of that. Q That is what I was trying to find out, when the fast rapid water was running you would stand away from the swiftest water? A You bet. Q Have you ever been on the river when your boat could make no headway against the rapid water? A Just in crossing, we would follow one side of the river for a while, then come to where the easiest water was on the other side, wouldn't make much headway in crossing it, just barely hold our own in the swift places. Q When you were in those swift places making those crossing over, has it ever happened to you that your boat would be whipped around? A No, I never let it do that. Q You were always able to hold it up stream in the channel? A Yes sir. Q Is that true of all three boats? A Yes sir. |
