Show activities'from source areas into .yards and homes. Alo, irrigaing systems contribute to migration of contnated soil in the channel; the channel receives water released 'from t, the irigation canals. Analytical results for 85 samples show that .che lead levels in the 290 channel soil between ,3200 West and 4800 West range from mg/Kg to 23,000 mg/Kg', and arsenic levels range from ],9 The mean concentrations are 566], mg/Kg mg/Kg to 890 mg/Kg. lead and 202 mg/Kg arsenic. Previous sampling indicates that lead levels range even higher in some areas of the cbannel. A significant potential 'for continued human exposure. to hazardous substances exists at the Site. Several 'miles of the' channel have soil with an average concentration of lead in excess of 2500 mg/Kg. Approximately 70% of the material from 85 samples, tested at the Site passed through a 250 micron mesh, which is the particle size considered most available for human In concentrated deposits' of' addition, expcsure with tailings high lead levels are frequently observed at depths from six inches to several feet below the surface of , the II. channel. PURPOSE - OVERVIEW This Statement of Work (SOW) defines the, objectives and scope of work that is involved in fulfilling, the requirements of the Unilateral Administrative Order (Docket # CERCLA VIII-93-10) The purpose of the work described hrein'is to address the uncontrol'led tailings with elevated lead and arsenic present at the Site and prevent the release or potential release of hazardous sUbstances. This .act.Lon is designed to 'protect residents. in the area who may be exposed to lead and arsenic levels that may pose a' 'health cnzeat., The scope .is' lindted, and is'focussed on the qhannel as a SDurce area that poses a, pot.ent.La.L for human exposure to high levels of' hazardous substance in the channel and the, poses potential for. . recontamination of residential properties remediated ,in a Removal action implemented in 1991. It should'b noted that the threat posed by arsenic will be addressed by this.Removal Action. The primary contaminant of concern at the Site is lead. ' The scope of work required in this action includes but is not to the channel invert, side slopes, and associated flood plain areas. 'The p.riority is placed on the channel .imited through the residential reach, which extends from Redwood Road (including Brookside Trailer Park), to 4800 West. The channel' reach up gradient from 4800 West is also included in the scope of this Removal Action. 'Also included in the is the area located at te northeast 3 corner of scope 3200 West and 9000 |
