No. I could select the 415 area code. She would either pick up or she wouldn't. If she didn't, well, too bad for me. I walked back into the corner pharmacy. Bought another phone. More time. Cash. Activated it but this time I went back to my hotel room. There's was almost no chance she would happen to be driving by on the street but living in a small town has taught me to expect the unexpected. My room was on the top floor. It was only a four story hotel but the height did allow me to see over the shops across the street and out toward the bay. It was still overcast. The sky looked like it was only taking a break in between downpours. I checked the "my number" option on the phone in my hand. I should have bought a phone that looked different than the first but I'm cheap. I was indeed holding the 415 phone. "Is it really love if you have to play spy just to call your girlfriend?" I asked the Buddha. Llama la ! I dialed. She answered with that kind of hello that says, "Who is this?" |
