I waited a little over two hours in my room before placing the key on the desk and walking out with my suit case. I knew I wouldn't be staying with Sarah's little family but I didn't want any loose ends tangling me up later. A room at the Day's Inn wouldn't be such a bad idea and I might be able to save Sarah a dime or two on child care in a pinch. "It took me fifteen extra minutes to find a parking place. The sky was clearing and Monterey in Summer was turning into the sea of tourists we've all heard it is. ,Mothers pushing babies in strollers, fathers holding hands with sons and daughters. It made me think how cute it is that my people want to believe that family is forever. I waited in line at the ticket booths and searched the crowd for Sarah with my eyes. She wasn't there. I bought my ticket and headed inside. My stomach was a tangle of feelings. The outdoor otter exhibit lets you watch dozens of otters playing in manufactured surf just twelve feet away from where you stand. They are beautiful, intelligent playful creatures. All the best aspects of people wrapped up in one marine mammal. And |
