I very nearly fell into this trap myself. My high school girlfriend corresponded with me throughout my entire mission. We were both in the eleventh grade when we met. And chaste. We never even kissed. Not that I didn't want to, but she had told me that she believed kissing was a sin so great we would be damned. Oh how we longed to kiss and how proud we felt that we were waiting until marriage... tox kiss. As my return neared, letters from her became fewer and fewer and I simply assumed that she was too excited in the preparations for my return to send any letters. English majors know things. I wasn't an english major then and so I did not realize that I was experiencing foreshadow. When I got home she was not only not at my homecoming party she had already married a guy who had graduated with us! I asked'her how this had happened and her answer was "He returned before you did. I'm sorry." |
