What always amazed me was the^bay and the way that when some police or security might come and shine lights in our direction, all we had to do was take a dip in the bay and fall quiet next to the submerged chain link fencing that kept seals out from under the docks themselves. Once a bay patrol boat had been called on us and we had had to swim twelve feet down to get under the fencing so that we could hide directly under one of the docks. That turned out to have been a mistake because there was hardly an inch of air between the surface of the water and the wood of the dock.
