Show The University Symphony, under the direction of Dr. Shand, has built over a number of years the reputation of being one of the top college level orchestras in the country. The Symphony has served as an important training ground for musicians of very high caliber. This year fifteen of its members were chosen for regular or alternate work with the Utah Symphony. In the past the University Symphony has provided excellent instrumental and conducting experience for many student musicians who are now regulars in major professional orchestras and/or who are outstanding teachers in the music education field. An important aspect of the orchestra concerns the fact that its members represented a diversity of major studies. Art majors as well as future doctors contributed their talent. Officers of the University Symphony were (front row) Marion LeCheminant, Shru di li Smith, Linda Welch, Allyson Hardy, (row 2) Craig Bradford, Bob Thurgood, David A. Shand, and Nyle Steiner. 83 |
