Show Tennis Led by NCAA semifinalist Jim Os-borne, this year's tennis team, was early in the season considered one of the WAC Conference favorites to win the league championship. And why not? Last season, the tennis Utes won the conference championship with relative ease and 1966 saw the return of the key men who gave Coach Harry James' netters this championship. Osborne not only finished high in the NCAA championships last season but also won the WAC number one singles crown. This season he was an overwhelming favorite to not only reappear as a WAC champ but to move up to a higher position in the NCAA finals. Other potential WAC winners included Mike Martinez, number two singles, and Jon-Erik Ross, number three man. In a supporting role were men like Sophomore Harold Sears, one of Utah's prospects for the future; Frithjof Prydz, NCAA ski jumping champion; and promising Bob Lind. Tennis Utes were (front row) Bob Lind, Mike Martinez, Steve Booth, (row 2) Frithjof Prydz, Jon-Erik Ross, Harold Sears, and Jim Osborne. Mike Martinez picks up a low one. 170 Another Ute jumps after a high return. ¦ m |
