Show Gymnastics Utah's gymnastics team finished fourth in the WAC Conference meet and there were very glittering individual performances. Team ^captain Keith Ahone, sophomore flash Brent Hale, and frosh "all-around" man Mike Kimball were the big three'on a team largely dominated by seniors and freshmen. Biggest individual effort was that of Hale who had a seventh place NCAA finish in the side horse event at the Penn State hosted NCAA finals. With such a strong freshman nucleus to work with, Coach Larry Anderson has the potential to build for future years in Utah's up-an-coming gymnastics program. Young, green, but still able were Kimball, Jerry Schirm, Pete Brandt, Dwight Mitts, plus more. Biggest team upset was Utah's win over the nation's fifth ranked college team, San Fernando Valley State College. Other teams competing against the Utes were Denver U., Arizona U., New Mexico, Eastern Montana, BYU, and Colorado State U.
