Show Neal A. Maxwell Vice President of Public Affairs An extremely congenial man, Neal A. Maxwell has the challenging responsibility of dealing with the University's many different publics. Due to the burgeoning duties of his office, Mr. Maxwell's position was changed this year from Vice President of Student and Public Affairs to Vice President of Public Affairs. In this capacity he supervises University activities in the areas of public relations, development, alumni, long-range planning and athletics. The University of Utah operates on a yearly budget of over forty million dollars. The person responsible for spending this money under the directives of President Fletcher and the Board of Regents is Paul W. Hodson, Business Vice President. Mr. Hodson, with an active background in business administration, is in charge of the financial, operational and construction programs at the University. At the present time his efforts are most urgently concentrated on a multi-million dollar building program which is designed to convert the University of Utah to a pedestrian campus by the year 1970. Paul W. Hodson Business Vice President Carl J. Christensen Director of Cooperative Research After working for seventeen years with the Bell Telephone Research Laboratories, Carl Christensen came to the University in 1946 to head the College of Mines. Between that time and 1954 he taught chemistry, ceramics and metallurgy. Then in 1954 he was appointed Director of Cooperative Research. As a representative of the Board of Regents, he administers all research contracts to the University. This includes fellowships, grants and special projects. 23 |
