Show %J N O N W E M E U The Freshman Dance highlighted a week of orientation activities. Welcome Week introduced entering Freshmen to the curriculum of the University of Utah. For many of them it was their first look at our beautiful, ever expanding campus. As well as being introduced to the physical and administrative make-up of the University, Freshmen learned of the many varied feelings and attitudes of campus life. The week began with new acquaintances and decisions made out of the informality of reference groups and seminars. The mood grew more formal as the week progressed with counseling sections and the serious thought involved, and the President's Reception, during which many met Dr. Fletcher and other school administrators. Providing a change and a chance for relaxation, the mayhem and abandon of "U" whitewash and melon bust drew an even larger crowd than expected. As the week progressed, each new student made the change from high school senior to college freshman. This, the essential purpose of orientation, was successful due to the capabilities of Kent Boyd, Welcome Week Chairman. His efforts resulted highly successful Welcome Week 1965. in a Eager, excited Frosh enthusiastically whitewash the U. Upperclassmen answered questions for incoming freshmen. |
