Show The Skyline ScrambleOut of a tangle, Bob Simmons breaks in fast to take a pass from Alden Lewis, who finds himself surrounded by eager Ags. Morris Buckwalter seems surprised at Lewis' choice, while Eddie Pepple is still looking for the ball.Conference basketball was reaching fever pitch, and a Utah team that had been a big question mark was winning when it wasn't supposed to be winning. With a four-won, two-lost conference mark, the team left on a jaunt that took them to Berkeley for games with the University of California and then on over the Pacific for some basketball with the University of Hawaii. After dropping the California encounters and splitting with Hawaii, the Redskins returned to a tough conference schedule which pitted them against the three top teams in the league - Colorado A&M, Wyoming, and BYU. In the next six tilts against these three teams, Utah managed to salvage only one win, and that against BYU on their floor. The second-half jitters beset the squad, and they blew half-time leads in four of these frays. Real heart-breakers were the four-point loss to Colorado A&M and the one-point loss to Wyoming, both on the Utes' home floor. Gardner's men closed the season with wins over Denver and New Mexico.Bob Fulton CenterCal DreckselForward164 |
