And Utah's four varsity coaches, Jack Curtice, Karl Schleckman, Pete Carlston, and Pres Summerhays, left little to be desired when it came to polish and perfection.Schleckman, a former all-conference at Utah, put the rugged guards and rangy tackles through their maneuvers, while Carlston, also a Ute alum, directed the ends down under Rydalch's aerials. Summerhays, all-conference halfback at Utah during the early 30's, was largely responsible for the fine work of hard-running, fast Utah backs. But above all, it was Kentucky-born, pass-happy Jack Curtice who directed the Redskin's Flying T in one of the most spectacular offensive shows in the nation. A member of the NCAA Rules Committee and a Sports Hall of Fame Judge, he was instrumental in obtaining the contract for the 1957 Utah-Army game.Lynn BywaterEquipment ManagerJohn WeberStudent Manager160 |
