Show Utah D eb atePros and cons on free trade, shaking fists, inflections of the voice - such were the signs of debate enthusiasts . . . given a chance to travel farther in more luxury than any group with the exception of the athletes . . . collectors of large quantities of activity points ... a group of closely knit friends . . . these supporters of forensic activities brought home numerous trophies and honors to add to U of U prestige . . . Junior Sweepstakes for the third consecutive year at the Linfield Invitational, one of three outstanding teams in the national Tau Kappa Alpha Debate Fraternity meet at Kala-mazoo, Michigan . . . this was the repeated result of each meet . . . debate teams did not claim all the glory . . . extemporaneous speakers, public speakers . . . they, too, cornered much of the praise, these students-turned-orators under the direction of coach George Adamson . . . another recognized portion of campus life ... a rewarding portion for all who found time to participate.Members of the U of U debate team pose by their means of transportation as they prepare to leave for a tournament at Linfield, Oregon.Verl O'Brien, Ireta Troth, Don Brown and Ellen Gunnell-outstanding tournament participants - engage in a friendly practice round.Exhibiting only a few of the trophies won by team members during 1953-1954 are Alan Mortensen, Lou Midgley-assistant coaches; George Adamson-coach; Janice Johnson and Verl O'Brien-managers.Caught in the middle of the closing round were intramural finalists - Alan Mortensen, Frank Johnson, John Harmer and Richard Bosley. |
