Show HomecommWeel; We played the role of carpenters . . . we stuffed napkins . . . pulled strings to manipulate moveable parts . . . drove trucks backwards down main street . . . made fools of ourselves on the Kingsbury Hall stage . . . tried to harmonize with three other guys . . . and we welcomed home our alums during the week-long Homecoming celebration. Spirit ran high as frats and sororities came up with amazing twists of the poetic theme-"Little Hoyo, Alumni Host, Sling 'urn Hatchet, Have Ram Roast"-in the form of house decorations ... as groups created take-offs on recent movies for the foundations of laugh-packed skits ... as serious and novelty songs provided entertainment for an enthusiastic audience during the two nights of skits and quartets . . . alums ate to their hearts' content, shook hands with long forgotten friends and reminisced at class reunions . . . weary paraders madetheir way along the seven block route . . . thousands cheered while football players came through to win an exciting afternoon game . . . then came the event when many felt that those long hours of blister-producing work, the struggle between studies and events, and the committee meetings were worth it ... the time when couples crowded around the bandstand at the Rainbow during dance intermission to gladly receive the glistening trophies from chairman Marj Egan, assistant chairman Jamie Lyon, Queen Pat Nilson and attendants Mary Kouris and Jan Olwin . . . Sweepstakes awards went to Chi Omega and Delta Phi . . . women's quartets to Alpha Chi Omega, men's to Sigma Chi . . . house decorations to Chi Omega and Pi Kappa Alpha . . . skits to Lambda Delta Sigma . . . floats to Lambda Delta Sigma ... at last a sigh of relief for another Homecoming had to come to a festive closing.First place in house decorations in the men's division went to Pi Kappa Alpha. An unusual dinner in an unusual setting was the basis for their "ram roast."A massive Indian eating cotton padded rams, thanks to "willing" pledge power, brought the Chi Omegas first in women's house decorations and Sweepstakes in the total competition. |
