Show SENATE CLARIFIES PROCEDURES POLICYNew power and duties enabled trie Senate to pass new legislation clarifying obscure rules and replacing obsolete laws with adequate ones. Most important on trie Senate agenda were tke following bills:1. The Se nate passed the election bill which changed the system of voting. Now both the student body and class officers, with the exception of the freshman class, are elected in the spring. This permits the newly-elected officers to attend the conferences and workshops held in the summer. These were previously attended by the outgoing officers. The Vigilantes were replaced by an election committee to police elections.2. The Se nate passed the constitutional requirement that the Chronicle publish the Senate agenda and all bills that were passed so that the student body may know their rights and obligations.3. The Senate approved a blood policy for students, faculty, and employees. Since these people donate so much blood yearly, the Senate felt that any member of the university needing blood should receive it without charge.4. The Senate established a set policy for requesting the services of the university band.5. The Se nate investigated library and Union food service policies. This resulted in a slight policy change on the part of the library. They stay open an hour later during finals week.6. The Senate revised the by-laws to compliment the constitution which provides for the student-faculty committees, boards and councils.7. The Senate passed a contempt of court bill permitting the student court to fine students who ignore subpoenas. If the student does not pay the fine his registration may be held until the fine is paid.8. The Se nate provided for a state of the campus address to be delivered by the student body president.Chronicle reporters became regular participants at meetings to give coverage to proceedings under the new Senate bill. |
