Show Ray Nagel, head football coach at Utah, completed his second season with a 9 win, 12 loss record. Starting as an all-city T-quarterback for Los Angeles High School in 1944, he filled this position in the years 1946-'47-'48, before becoming a tailback in the late Red Sanders' first season at UCLA. After serving one year as an assistant to the head freshman coach, Ray was signed by Sanders as a varsity aide in 1949. Ray maintained this position until 1953, when he went to the Chicago Cardinals as a player-coach. The following season, he was signed as dn assistant to Bud Wilkinson at Oklahoma.In 1955, Ray returned to his alma mater where he served through the 1957 season before being signed as the Utah head coach in April, 1958. Ray has two past Bruin stars, Don Stalwick and John Nikcevich, on his coaching staff.Ray's plan of attack is motivated towards adjusting the offense to fit the personnel.
