Show "NUTCRACKER" REPEATS ANNUAL PRODUCTIONAll of the excitement and imagery created in a child's mind at Christmas . . . the tinkle of tiny silver hells, a glittering, festooned tree, and the red-ribboned bundles beneath it, were beautifully recreated in the University's traditional Christmas ballet, The Nutcracker." The fantasy takes place in Germany where two children, Clara and Fritz, are almost bursting with anticipation as they wait to open their presents. An old toymaker gives Clara a nutcracker carved in the image of a tiny man. The time arrives when the children must be put to bed, but Clara cannot resist the opportunity to tip-toe downstairs for just one more look. All of the toys, even her handsome nutcracker, are now alive. The nutcracker is actually an enchanted prince in disguise. He escorts Clara to the kingdom of the Snow Queen where she meets the Sugar Plum Fairy who offers her candies and treats in the form of dances. As a beautiful blossom unfolds, so does the lovely "Waltz of the Flowers." |
