Show "Ond ine was written by one of France's most famous playwrights, Jean Giraudoux, and tells the story of a knight and a water nymph who fall hopelessly in love. The excellent use of the Kingsbury Hall stage in regard to sets and costumes was one of the contributing factors in making this the most breathtaking and enjoyable offering to many during the year. Suzanne Storrs played the role of a sparkling young water nymph who forfeits her powers of sorcery so that she can learn how to bake a meringue pie and be the perfect wife of a knight, played by John Ragin.A description of Sheridan s The Rivals " might easily be: An exhuberant, melodramatic comedy depicting several social attitudes and manners. Presented March 1 to 5, this play was the only major production held at Kingsbury Hall in which the stars were not imported. Under the directing hand of C. Lowell Lees, Lila Eccles Brim-hall, First Lady of the Utah Theater, Lynn Eric Johnson, Jo May, and the remainder of the cast produced a delightful performance of this long-time, high-ranking comedy.Much of trie talent in the University theatre is native to the area. Harold FoIIand, member of the English department faculty, is pictured above in scene from'The Rivals. Suzanne Storrs, formerly Suzanne Poulton, returned home to play lead in Ondine. |
