Show Table 2 All Births and Medicaid Births by Race: Utah, 1985-89 Salt Lake County Weber County Balance of State Percentage Nonwhite All Medicaid Births Births 6.5 9.1 4.9 7.4 5.5 7.3 Non-white races are generally considered to be at higher risk for infant death, but little geographic variation is present in percentages of nonwhite births. Table 2 shows that Weber County had a lower proportion of nonwhite births than Salt Lake County residents, both in the Medicaid and the general population. In any case, the Weber-Morgan District averaged less than 1 nonwhite infant death per year from 1985 through 1989. Consequently, these data do not appear significant. Figure 8 shows that for all births and for Medicaid births the proportion of births to teens was higher in Weber County than in the comparison areas. Over the period, one-third of Medicaid births to Weber County residents were to teenagers.
