(1988). Unpublished report The rate of increase for hospital costs in Utah was above the national average and the Intermountain states from 1976 to 1986, then dropped below the national rate from 1987 to 1990, while staying slightly above the Intermountain Region's rate. Rates of increase for physicians' health care costs in Utah were lower than in the Intermountain Region and higher than in the nation from 1976 to 1982, but have since dropped below both the national and Intermountain Region rates (Table 77). Nursing home rates of increase show an interesting pattern for Utah from 1982 to 1986, in which the average rate of increase was only 3.7%, compared to 8.9% for the Intermountain Region and 9.5% for the U.S. Between 1987 and 1990 the rate of increase for nursing home expenditures rose faster in Utah than in the U.S. and Intermountain Region (Table 77). Utah's rate of increase for other health care expenditures in Utah was above the national rate between 1976 and 1982 and approximately equal to the Intermountain Region's rate. Utah subsequently dropped to either being below, or equal to, the rates for the nation and the Intermountain states. 66 HEALTHCARE |
