Show Business with a Master of Science in Business Administration. Bruce P. Murray, PhD, is UHA's Executive Vice President. He assists Mr. Kinnersley in legislative lobbying and staff development, publishing the annual "Fact Book," supervising all UHA research studies, developing UHA's biannual "Environmental Assessment," and directing the Association's strategic planning. Dr. Murray holds a doctorate from the University of Kentucky, Lexington, with specialties in Medical Sociology and Marriage and the Family. He previously earned BS and MS degrees from Brigham Young University in Provo. Utah Nurses Association UNA President-Elect is Kay Willis. In this capacity, Ms. Willis is an advocate for nursing in professional practices. She participates on task forces and helps draft legislation relative to professional practices. Ms. Willis also encourages organization membership and increases the visibility and viability of the UNA. Ms. Willis received a nursing diploma from John Petersmith Hospital in 1963, a BS in Nursing from the University of Texas in 1977, and an MS in Nursing from Texas Woman's University in 1978. She is currently in the PhD Nursing Administration program at the University of Utah. Ms. Willis has 17 years in clinical nursing and 12 years in nursing/health care management. She is presently the Assistant Administrator/Nursing at HCA St. Mark's. Additionally, Kay has served for 13 years as a faculty member at the University of Texas Arlington School of Nursing and Westminster College School of Nursing in Salt Lake City. Paula Julander is the executive director of the Utah Nurses Association, a position she has held since her unsuccessful bid for Utah Lieutenant Governor in 1992. She was recently appointed to the technical panel for the Governor's Health Care Policy Option Commission. She also serves on the Wasatch Homeless Health Care Service, Home Health Plus. As a former state legislator she served on the Health Standing Committee and the Legislative Task Force for Health Care Reform in 1991 and 1992. Her education includes an RN Diploma (1960), a BSN from the University of Utah (1984), and an MSN in Nursing Administration from Brigham Young University (1990). Utah Health Care Association Doug Christensen is the President of UHCA. As President, he represents 96% of Utah's nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, and intermediate care centers for the mentally retarded. He also assists in the "development and protection of the ability of long term care providers to deliver responsive, professional health care and other services to its clients in a safe and secure environment." Mr. Christensen brings to the UHCA over 15 years of experience in the long term care industry. He has served in various administrative positions, including administrator of an intermediate care facility for the mentally retarded, administrator of a skilled nursing center, and regional director supervising ten facilities in Utah, Oregon, and California. Mr. Christensen is currently a regional director for Heritage Management, which owns or operates 15 nursing centers in Utah. Dennis N. McFall has been the Executive Vice President of UHCA for 17 years. He assists Mr. Christensen in lobbying on behalf of the industry. He was formerly the Director of Provider Relations for Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Utah, and Director of Accounting and Business Operations for McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden. Mr. McFall holds degrees in both Accounting and Law, as well as an MBA. Utah Public Health Association Laverne Alves Snow is the president of the Utah Public Health Association (UPHA). The mission of UPHA is to serve as an independent voice to ensure that conditions exist for the people of Utah to acquire and enjoy optimal health. Ms. Snow will serve two years as president of the 250 member organization. The membership is made up of individuals who share occupations and interest in promoting the health of Utah's public. Most of UPHA's work is done through volunteer committee assignments. UPHA members are actively involved in the 136 NOTES |
