The only exception to this occurred between 1982 and 1984, when the death rate was 1.6 higher for females than males per 100,000 population. Between 1979 and 1990 both the male and female death rates increased. *From 1979 to 1990 the numbers represent a three-year average because of the small number of deaths per year.
