Show Scott Packer was born May 18, 1959 in Blackfoot, Idaho. Luckily for Ricks College Blackfoot isn't too far away, because Scott decided to attend Ricks after graduating from High School. While at Ricks he not only did excellent in school but he quickly became one of the stars of the basketball team, and was eventually voted as the teams most valuable player! After shining at Ricks, Scott had to make a tough decision: whether to play basketball for a major university or go on a mission for his church. Fortunately for the people of Montreal Canada he opted to go on a mission! Upon returning from his mission Scott went to BYU. He ended up majoring in Zoology, and also made the "Y's" basketball team as a walk-on candidate. He also found time to get married inbetween all this. In 1981 Scott married Andrea Taylor from Tampa Florida, whom he had met at Ricks College. Scott and Andrea have three beautiful daughters: Vanessa, age 4 ½; Laura, age 3; and Natalie, age 3 months. Scott is an extremely talented athlete and not only plays a mean game of basketball, but does very well at tennis and raquetball and practically anything else he tries his hand at. In addition to sports he enjoys re-finishing furniture and playing the guitar. Like the rest of us, he had a tough time deciding what field he wanted to pursue, but finally decided on ER medicine. After his residency, Scott would like to practice somewhere in the intermountain area. SCOTT PACKER ITHACA When you start on your journey to Ithaca, then pray that the road is long, full of adventure, full of knowledge. Do not fear the Lestrygonians and the Cyclopes and the angry Poseidon. You will never meet such as these on your path, if your thoughts remain lofty, if a fine emotion touches your body and your spirit. You will never meet the Lestrygonians, the Cyclopes and the fierce Poseidon, if you do not carry them within your soul, if your soul does not raise them up before you. Then pray that the road is long. That the summer mornings are many, that you will enter ports seen for the first time with such pleasure, with such joy! Stop at Phoenician markets, and purchase fine merchandise, mother-of-pearl and corals, amber and ebony, and pleasurable perfumes of all kinds, buy as many pleasurable perfumes as you can; visit hosts of Egyptian cities, to learn and learn from those who have knowledge. Always keep Ithaca fixed in your mind. To arrive there is your ultimate goal. But do not hurry the voyage at all. It is better to let it last for long years; and even to anchor at the isle when you are old, rich with all that you have gained on the way, not expecting that Ithaca will offer you riches. Ithaca has given you the beautiful voyage. Without her you would never have taken the road. But she has nothing more to give you. Scott already practicing to be an athlete! Vanessa with Laura on Andrea's lap. And if you find her poor, Ithaca has not defrauded you. With the great wisdom you have gained, with so much experience, you must surely have understood by then what lthacas mean. - C.P. Cavafy 93 |
