Show Lynne Kerr, like Rose and Jamie, is one of the "Superwomen" who started our program already doctored with a Ph.D. and grossly overqualified for this school and our class. We thought she was just real lucky to ace the Biochemistry challenge test; it took us a while to figure out that she may have had some inside help after earning her degrees in neurophysiology and neurolinguistics. God, she would frustrate so many discussions at the Bongo club. We would be casually dissecting the women in our class over brewskis and pool, and suddenly Lynne's name would pop up and the room would throb in the confused silence as we would all struggle with our doubts and inadequacies while trying to figure out this incredible woman. We all felt like complete idiots next to Lynne Kerr, probably because we were complete idiots next to Lynne Kerr ... She was very confident those first two years, downright smug, damn it. She didn't even look pregnant while carrying Nicholas, before, during, or after the one afternoon she missed classes for the delivery. She and her husband Hunter Jackson built a family, conducted research, and taught classes while the rest of us jerks struggled with the difficulties of getting parking permits. She would occasionally grace our post· exam discussions with her interpretations (naturally different than our own) of the test answers, then leave us to wallow in the realization that she was right. God, we hated her. Once we grew up and stifled our macho vanities and stupid egos, we began to understand what a beautiful human being Lynne really is. She didn't change, the problem was ours. We thought for a while that making AOA "mellowed" her out, or that almost being guaranteed a slot in Utah's Triple-Board program next year has taken the "pressure" off of her, but we were wrong, we were wrong. Our own jealousies obscured the fact that Lynne Kerr has always been and always will be a wonderfully kind, funny, bright, helpful, friendly, considerate classmate to all of us, albeit a little "reserved" around us. Small wonder ... LYNNE KERR The whole family The two guys who got me through 66 medical school ... (I'm the little one) |
