Dr° Walter Channing, professor of mental diseases at Tufts Medical School and later chairman of the board of trustees of Boston State H05pital, examined Czolgosz and concluded that he may have been suffering from "dementia praecox of the hebephrenic form."lo Likewise, Roosevelt, John Schrank, who wounded Theodore was judged insane by a panel of psychiatrists and was confined in mental institutions until he died thirty-one years later. Schrank claimed to have heard voiced urging him to kill Theodore Roosevelt for seeking a third term in office, and he said he would shoot any president desiring a third term. When he heard that Franklin Roosevelt was seeking a third term, it apparently was too much for him and he died.
