Show The United States has water right Applications Nos. 9571, 9572, 36639 and 37093 to appropriate water in Utah Lake. Applications Nos. 9571 and 9572 are old unapproved applications that were filed in 1924 by the Utah Water Storage Commission. They cover the appropriation of 25,000 acre-feet and 200,000 acre-feet, respectively. Application No. 37093 covers the appropriation of 300,000 acre-feet of water from Utah Lake for the Central Utah Project. This application was filed in 1965 but it cannot be acted on until the Lake and Jordan River tributaries are restored by the Governor for farther appropriations. Application No. 36639 will be discussed under the section on the Starvation Complex. The Bureau of Reclamation recently filed three applications for the right of exchange of project water in Utah Lake for groundwater development by the Bonneville Unit. Under these exchange applications the Unit proposes to divert 165 second-feet or 35,000 acre-feet of ground water from 22 wells which are naturally tributary to Utah Lake through seeps, springs, drainages, and diffused leakage occurring both above and below the present shoreline of the lake. The water would be used for various project purposs but primarily for municipal and industrial use. In exchange for the ground water diverted from the proposed wells, project storage water, project return flow, and water saved from evapotranspiration by project facilities will be delivered to Utah Lake.
