EXPLANATORY It is proposed to construct a diversion canal from the point given under paragraph 7 of this application and running in a general westerly and southwesterly direction therefrom to intercept the high runoff of water from the area lying to the north and west of the canal. The point of diversion as given is on the divide between the Virgin River Drainage and the Urie Creek Drainage which is a tributary of Coal Creek in Iron County. The runoff intercepted by the canal will come entirely from the upper reaches of the Virgin River watershed. The portion of that watershed which will lie above the canal is comprised of part of Sec. 31, T37S, R10W, SLB&M, part of sections 24, 25, 55, and 36, T37S, R11W, SLB&M, part of Sections 2, 3, 10 and 11, T38S, R11W, SLB&M. In all there will be a total of approximately 4 sections or 2650 acres of the watershed above the canal. It is expected that each acre of watershed will yield approximately 1 acre-foot of runoff annually. Most of the runoff will occur with the spring snow thaw and will extend from April 1st to June 15th.
